If i use shady spectacles to turn a recruit into a copy of illaoi does this recruit still count as a token unit or just a ''token''?

Yes — it stays a token unit. Copy effects only change "copyable traits" (Might, rules text, tags); they can't touch a game object's fundamental identity as a token (Rule 185.1.a: "Token Game Objects cannot lose their token nature by any means").

So the Recruit is still a token and still a unit — it's not downgraded to "just a token." It still counts for things that care about token units (e.g., Illaoi's own "+1 power for each token unit you control"), and if it ever leaves the board it will cease to exist like any token. Being a copy of Illaoi only affects its stats and rules text (Rule 185.1, FAQ #11371).
